Problem:

User can’t open a particular web site – most others work.

Specifics:

Description:

For one of my clients, they could not open up their web mail site.  Oddly enough, all other websites had worked up to this point.

Root Cause:

DNS settings were not functioning as expected.  This site does not use DHCP, so all of the PC’s had private ip addresses in the range of 192.168.0.XXX set manually.  A cable modem sharing device and 4 port Ethernet switch (in this case a NetGear RP614) is used for internet, with the PC’s are connected to the switch.

Solution:

Assign the DNS addresses used by the cable modem sharing device to each of the individual PC’s.  I discovered the DNS settings by going into the status section of the cable sharing device and then used these settings for each of the individual PC’s.
